Discrimination against mobile European Union citizens before and during the first COVID-19 lockdown: Evidence from a conjoint experiment in Germany

چکیده
One of the greatest achievements EU is freedom movement between member states offering citizens equal rights in states. enlargement and COVID-19 pandemic allow for a critical test whether are indeed treated equally practice. We preferential treatment two hypothetical choice experiments Germany at different time points: period before during lockdown. Theories responses to threat suggest that crisis should increase discrimination against mobile citizens. While our findings reveal sizeable based on nationality language proficiency citizens, also that, contrary expectations, did not initial period.
